Nová Bystřice, Regional Narrow Gauge Railway Museum

Hrad Bitov

The castle Bítov (German Vöttau Castle) belongs to the municipality Bítov in the district Znojmo in the Czech Republic. It is located about 25 km northwest of Znojmo above the Želetavka, not far from its mouth in the Thaya.

Bítov Castle is one of the oldest castles in Moravia. It was first mentioned in 1061 as a sovereign possession and belonged to the defense system against Austria.

Hrad Roštejn

The castle Roštejn (German Rosenstein) is located six kilometers north of Telč in Okres Jihlava in the Czech Republic. Its location on a rocky promontory offers a good view over the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands.

The castle was built after 1339 by the brothers Meinhard and Ulrich IV of Neuhaus. The first burgrave was Martin von Mutice (Mareš z Mutic). In the 16th century, the castle was rebuilt by Zacharias of Neuhaus to a hunting lodge. The 53 meter high heptagonal Gothic tower is still accessible today.

Zámek Vranov nad Dyjí

Castle Gilgenberg

Castle and Aegidiuskapelle lie above the Feinitzbach, about 1.5 km north of Waldkirchen an der Thaya. From the old castle, only meager wall remains have survived. Like the chapel they lie on a rock about 8 m high.

The castle can only be visited from the outside, the chapel is mostly blocked.

Zámek Uherčice

The Renaissance chateau was built on the site of a Gothic festival in the 16th century on behalf of Krajíř of Krajek. After World War II, the spacious object slowly decayed. It is currently being reconstructed. The restoration work can be followed during the visit. The castle includes a former baroque garden and an extensive forest park.

Znojemský hrad

The extraordinary location in which the castle of Znojmo is located gave the people a favorable environment already in the 4th millennium BC. From the early Bronze Age comes a significant find of a depot of 70 pieces of bronze ingot. The promontory was obviously an ancient place of worship, and it was no coincidence that it was later chosen by the Bohemian Duke Konrad I and his son Luitold as a place to build a new wood-clay castle.

Castle Karlstein

Karlstein Castle is located on a steep cliff in Karlstein on the Thaya in Lower Austria. Karlstein is first mentioned as Chadelstain in 1112.
